Moving westward from Paramount Studios to the swanky zip code of 90210, Frieze set up shop at its newfound home: the grounds of The Beverly Hilton. No matter the neighbourhood, the LA-based edition of Frieze drives home an aspect unique to this city in comparison to other major art metropolises around the world:&nbsp; it is a thriving cultural centre that intersects Hollywood and the art world.&nbsp;&nbsp;

It was full speed ahead as the global art market jetted into town and the city was infused with creativity sensory overload.&nbsp; Art week was such a welcome escape from pandemic confinement, that there was an air of &ldquo;C*v*d amnesia&rdquo;: aside from mask wearing, people hopping all of over the city preoccupied with their love of art and interaction seemed to forget about the virus that kept us captive for two years. (Pandemic? What pandemic?)&nbsp;&nbsp;

The city was alive again with fairs, gallery and auction house receptions, museum exhibits, private dinners in the hills, power lunches and brunches among art world deal makers, art film premieres, parties sans social distancing, fashion brand pop-ups - Prada, Dries Van Noten, Burberry and MATCHESFASHION to name a few held fashion-meets-art affairs that drew in Hollywood&rsquo;s A-list and global fashion influencers. Oh and we cannot forget the buzzword of the moment taking over the industry:&nbsp; NFTs (drops, talks, crypto events, etc&hellip;).

The common denominators throughout the week: a celebation of art everywhere you looked from the beach to downtown, from the hills to Culver City; social interaction, laughs, champagne endlessly flowing (thanks to Ruinart).&nbsp;

Yes, the pandemic served as a powerful catalyst for the art world to go virtual and come up with innovative solutions when in-person happenings were vetoed.&nbsp; The new adoptions and applications of blockchain, the metaverse, NFTs and digitization have forever changed the landscape of the art world as we know it, and we are excited for the intermixing of these new tools into everyday business.&nbsp; In the same breath, the week in Los Angeles was a powerful statement that the IRL (in real life) art world that we all missed is back in action&hellip; in-person and ready to mingle.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Frieze Art Fair

The VIP preview day kicked off on Thursday, with 100+ international and local galleries, and visitors from Europe, Asia and from throughout the USA.&nbsp;&nbsp;

With a penchant for attracting A-list Hollywood celebrities, many notable personalities came out to preview the fair including Leonardo DiCaprio, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kendall Jenner, Pierce Brosnan, Owen Wilson, James Corden, Will Ferrell, The Weeknd, Mike D of The Beastie Boys and Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino.

Ruinart champagne and Bisquit &amp; Dubouch&eacute; cognac kept the beverages flowing at their receptions and throughout the weekend within their respective lounges outfitted with art installations commissioned by artists they enlisted.&nbsp; R.U.in.ART gave the cutest sustainability-driven nod to 90210 by working with artist Suzanne Husky with an exhibit titled &ldquo;Dam Beaverly Hills!&rdquo; spotlighting the fact that the name of the 90210 neighbourhood where the fair took place actually comes the meaning &ldquo;beaver-clearling&rdquo; or &ldquo;beaver-lake,&rdquo; and drawing attention to the furry little creature&rsquo;s integral role in shaping the California landscape (and hopefully playing a role in future in regenerative agriculture).&nbsp; Bisquit &amp; Dubouch&eacute; enlisted artist Jillian Mayer to create a &ldquo;Glass Room&rdquo; filled with stained glass-like sculptures throughout their space.

The fair drew in over 30,000 visitors including artists of all ages including major international gallerists and big-name collectors,&nbsp;reinforcing its worthy place among its art metropolises peers including London, New York, Basel, Hong Kong (Singapore is also poised to be a leader in the art market).&nbsp; &nbsp;As a major cultural centre, Los Angeles is a major contributor to the global art market on all fronts as a city of market makers: artists, art collectors, gallerists and dealers.&nbsp;

Many of the world&rsquo;s top galleries participated, with sales coming in fast and furious on opening day. Notable sales include the following: Thaddaeus Ropac selling a Georg Baselitz painting for a whopping &euro;1.35-million and a 1998 Robert Rauschenberg for $1.1-million;&nbsp; Hauser &amp; Wirth&rsquo;s sold out solo exhibit featuring several works by French artist Camille Henrot ranging from $20,000 to $140,000;&nbsp; Gagosian placed Chris Burden&rsquo;s immersive &ldquo;Dreamer&rsquo;s Folly&rdquo; sculpture - one of the fair&rsquo;s most photographed pieces - to a European institution for an undisclosed amount;&nbsp; Pace sold Jeff Koons&rsquo; 2013 &ldquo;Gazing Ball&rdquo; hovering around a cool $3-million;&nbsp; David Kordansky selling out the entire lot of seven works by Michael Williams in the solo presentation, all priced at $100,000;&nbsp; David Zwirner sold works by Lisa Yuskavag and Alice Neel within the $600,000-$1.5-million range;&nbsp; Goodman Gallery sold a work by William Kentridge to a LA-based collection for $500,000+;&nbsp; Elusive Fashion designer Martin Margiela made an appearance at Frieze by means of two sculptures sold by Zeno X gallery at $50,000 each;&nbsp; Jay Jopling&#39;s&nbsp;White Cube had a few handfuls of notable sales including a five-panel piece by Imi Knoebel piece at &euro;395,000, a Beatriz Milhazes for $200,000, a Magnus Plessen painting for &euro;120,000, and a 2014 Tracey Emin piece for &pound;60,000;&nbsp; Sean Kelly sold an Antony Gormley work for &pound;400,000;&nbsp; Xavier Hufkens sold out their booth of Thomas Houseago paintings each with a price tag of around $350,000;&nbsp; Stephen Friedman sold out their booth of works by Denzil Forrester all lying within the range of &pound;15,000 to &pound;185,000;&nbsp; The artist proof of an outdoor bronze by Woody De Othello was sold by Jessica Silverman for $400,000;&nbsp; Lehmann Maupin sold out the solo presentation of McArthur Binion works for a combined total of $550,000.

Frieze Projects played an integral role in the fair experience:&nbsp; A selection of hand-picked large-scale multi-disciplinary works by the Frieze curation team themed around current issues including nature, history of protest, the substructures that support architecture of the city, and the relationship between materiality and history.&nbsp; Participating artists included: Alma Allen, Mel Bochner, Beatriz Cortez, Olivia Erlanger, Hannah Greely, Glenn Kaino, Woody De Othello, and Isabel Yellin.&nbsp;&nbsp;

 
FOCUS LA returned this year serving as a conduit for 11 emerging local galleries and artistic spaces aged 15 years or younger to take the stage within a globally recognized art fair.&nbsp; Curated by Amanda Hunt, Director of Public Programs &amp; Creative Practice at LA&rsquo;s Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, the featured galleries are recognized for supporting innovative artists and collaborative projects.

When you hear that Prada is bringing their pop-up private members club produced by Dani Morla and his Morla Creation dream team to town, you know that it&rsquo;s going to be an unforgettable time, and you know you need to bring your style game.&nbsp; For its seventh installation of Prada Mode - a nomadic members club intersecting the house&rsquo;s fashion sensibility with art - the brand tapped Artist Martine Syms. &nbsp; The pop-up has traveled to Miami, London, Paris, Shanghai, and Moscow.&nbsp; It all started with the incredible success of Carsten Höller&rsquo;s Prada Double Club previously in London (2008/2009) and at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2017.&nbsp; Prada Mode then launched in 2018 by taking over the entirety of The Freehand Miami hotel, transforming it into an invitation-only club of events, musical performances and parties, and designed by Chicago-based social practice artist Theaster Gates.&nbsp; Last year the pop-up concept partnered with Damien Hirst who lent his &ldquo;Pharmacy&rdquo; installation for Prada Mode&rsquo;s Moscow edition.&nbsp;

Fast-forward to Los Angeles in February 2022 where Syms transformed the iconic Chinese restaurant-music venue Genghis Cohen in the Fairfax District for a two-day event. Syms describes the end-product of her labor of love, titled &ldquo;HelLA World&rdquo; as &ldquo;an interactive textual and visual play for three characters: one en route to the party, one at the party, and one not attending.&rdquo;&nbsp; Ticker tape-like screens and other projections featured aspects of text, video, live performance, and narration.&nbsp; Guests interacted with the space by contributing via phone.&nbsp; The interior and exterior featured surveillance cameras and videos, giving a sense of hyper-self-consciousness and voyeurism in the same instance while in a very public setting: a party. She added that the installation was an homage to her hometown LA:&nbsp; &ldquo;I wanted to address the experience of being in the city. I liked the unruliness of it.&rdquo;

Notable names attending included Milla Jovovich, Jeff Goldblum, Gabrielle Union, Rashida Jones, Storm Reid, Ella Balinska, Damson Idris, and Jordan Wolfson. The two-day agenda included a talk titled &ldquo;LA, Cinema and Contemporary Art&rdquo; with Syms alongside Diamond Stingily and Daisy Zhou, a live performance from Junglepussy, DJ sets by Acyde, Bae Bae, Bianca Lexis, Damar Davis, Femi Adeyemi, Harriet Brown, and Kyle Hall.

MATCHESFASHION Pops Up And Takes Up Residency 
At An Iconic Beverly Hills Home For The Week

MATCHESFASHION returned as an official Frieze Los Angeles partner but with a lot more to it this year.&nbsp; In addition to presence onsite at the fair, the British luxury retailer also took it up a notch by transforming an entire Mid-Century Modern house in the coveted Trousdale Estates section of the Beverly Hills.&nbsp; <a href="http://www.simonhousela.com/">Simon House</a> transformed into art week&rsquo;s dreamy go-to locale for everything sartorial. Designed to emulate its London townhouse <a href="https://www.matchesfashion.com/us/stores/5carlosplace">5 Carlos Place</a>, the pop-up included a luxury retail experience of top designer brand collections along with personal VIP shopping advisors, an event space for their series of social affairs, and a social media and broadcasting hub.

The week&rsquo;s agenda was packed with deliciousness: an Alexander McQueen Frieze week kick-off cocktail party featuring a performance by Soko, with cocktails courtesy of LOVE and featuring an exclusive installation of the luxury brand&rsquo;s new season collection; MATCHESFASHION hosted a champagne brunch to showcase beautifully crafted Z.d.G. by Zoe de Givenchy homeware with the designer in attendance; the one and only - and super stylish &ndash; multi-hyphenate art dealer-turned-satirical Instagram &ldquo;memester,&rdquo; industry reporter and artist Jerry Gogosian hosted a brunch; a dinner in celebration of Dr. Woo&rsquo;s menswear edit;&nbsp; a dinner to celebrate the launch of the second L&rsquo;OBJET x Haas Brothers fantastical-meets-functional collection of otherworldly creatures and home decor objets d&rsquo;art; the New History Makers Lunch in partnership with Charlene Prempeh and Lewis Gilbert, respectively the Founder and Creative Director of A Vibe Called Tech creative agency, bringing together Lehman Maupin and Roberts Projects galleries to celebrate emerging and established talent from BIPOC communities.&nbsp; MATCHESFASHION partnered with Frieze to support 10 BIPOC-led organisations from across LA selected by Art Made Between Opposite Sides, with an equally distributed donation of $20,000. The 10 artist-led social impact projects were featured within the BIPOC Exchange communal exhibit space at The Beverly Hilton as part of the Frieze Projects program.

Also, tucked away within the estate, a lucky few were able to snag a private session with arguably the world&rsquo;s top skincare pioneer, innovator and savant, Fatma Shaheen, Founder of London-based British clinic and brand <a href="http://skindesignlondon.com/">Skin Design London</a>, for a personalised skin assessment and a tailored (and very indulgent) treatment session for the visage.&nbsp; Deemed the &ldquo;Skin Saviour&rdquo; by Vogue Italia, her clinic&rsquo;s treatments and award-winning designer cosmeceuticals products have earnt Skin Design London a cult following.&nbsp; When Frieze LA VIPs caught wind of Shaheen taking up real estate at the MATCHESFASHION pop-up, her appointment diary filled up quicker than an Adele concert sells out on Ticketmaster. Chances are if you saw someone during Frieze and thought &ldquo;I wonder how (s)he gets that amazing glow?&rdquo;, now you know his or her likely secret: Fatma.&nbsp;

As for MATCHESFASHION&rsquo;s presence within the fair itself as done in previous years, they took over a gallery space in collaboration with Alexander May, Founder and Creative Director of SIZED.&nbsp; The exhibit featured works by 12 contemporary and emerging artists including Ben Medansky, Cat Snodgrass, Chris Miller, Dina Nur Satti, Gaetano Pesce, Heven, Jim McDowell, Leena Similu, LS Gomma, Eddie Olin, Rio Estudio, Thomas Barger.&nbsp; MATCHESFASHION also launched a &ldquo;Voices from Frieze&rdquo; podcast: a series of audio guides featuring Gabriella Sanchez, Quil Lemons, Amanda Hunt, AJ Giraud and Dr Woo focusing on what&rsquo;s new in the LA art scene, which are available globally through all podcast platforms.

Members club&nbsp;Neuehouse&#39;s two LA outposts located in Hollywood and in the historic Bradbury Building downtown served as the hub of everything conversation for the week, hosting a series of panel discussions, cocktails and exhibitions.&nbsp; Especially noteworthy were the panel discussions led by&nbsp;Dezeen magazine, including one with&nbsp;globally renowned artificial intelligence-driven new media artist <a href="http://instagram.com/refikanadol">Refik Anadol</a>, Liam Young, and Space Popular&nbsp;to discuss the phenomenal rise of the metaverse, and the mix of optimism and disconcertment.&nbsp;

POP! POP! POP! Jeff Koons and BMW Debut THE 8 X JEFF KOONS,&nbsp; 
The Collaborative Limited Edition Neo-Pop Art Car of Koons&rsquo; Dreams

Like a kid in a candy shop, Jeff Koons had the opportunity to imagine and bring to life what he calls the car of his dreams thanks to his partnership with BMW.&nbsp; Koons, known taking the world of imagination and wonder within his mind to create super-sized pop culture and childhood fantasy-inspired sculptures that break art market sales records, spent the last few years working with the BMW design team using a car as his canvas to create a limited artist edition of 99 cars titled <a href="https://www.bmw-m.com/en/topics/magazine-article-pool/the-8-x-jeff-koons.html">&ldquo;THE 8 X JEFF KOONS,&rdquo;</a>

As a Frieze partner since 2004, BMW along with Koons unveiled the edition during this February&rsquo;s Los Angeles fair, a year after having announced the partnership with Koons on the BMW M840i x Drive Gran Coup&eacute; in celebration of 50 years of cultural engagement.&nbsp; Each car comes with a price tag of $350,000, where a lucky few collector owners will drive away with a very special investment piece that is one part utilitarian vehicle and one part priceless piece of contemporary Pop Art.

Koons has held a longstanding relationship with BMW since meeting Dr. Thomas Girst, BMW Group Head of Cultural Engagement back in 2008 at his exhibition at Berlin&#39;s Neue Nationalgalerie.&nbsp; Since 1975, when the BMW Art Car program first launched, BMW has commissioned blue-chip artists to design their own respective one-off interpretations of a BMW car which would be showcased and/or raced. Past artists include Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Alexander Calder, Olafur Eliasson, Jenny Holzer and David Hockney among others.&nbsp; Koons&rsquo; love for BMW resulted in him having the opportunity to produce his own one-off Art Car which raced at the 24-hour Le Mans in 2010.&nbsp; In 2017 Koons and Girst started exploring the idea of creating a limited edition car to bring to market, and from there the idea for this partnership was born.&nbsp; &ldquo;We wanted to make something special because, whenever you create something, you&rsquo;re showing the person who will interact with it &ndash; whether it&rsquo;s an artwork or a car &ndash; that you care about them.&rdquo; Whereas his &ldquo;Art Car&rdquo; for Le Mans was all about speed, this 2022 edition was all about the art, craftsmanship and thoughtful detailing. The &ldquo;pop&rdquo; shapes and the colour scheme of bright reds, yellows, blues with bold black lines and white highlights immediately evokes superhero comic books and Lichtenstein artworks.&nbsp; The detailing of these cars is so labour-intensive that the plant in Germany is producing only four cars from this edition each week. Koons states that the painting of the exterior alone takes 200 hours to do.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

&ldquo;BMW thrives on constantly seeking out new challenges,&rdquo; states Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. &ldquo;Working with Jeff Koons again has inspired us all &ndash; throughout headquarters and across our plants in Germany. Never before in the history of our company has a BMW been created with such an extensive design effort as THE 8 X JEFF KOONS. A &#39;rolling sculpture&#39; that will not only be displayed as a coveted collector&#39;s item in museums but will also be allowed to flourish on the road as a genuine BMW.&rdquo;

Koons always wanted a car that goes &ldquo;POP! POP! POP!&rdquo; so this edition is a case in point that manifestation makes dreams come true.&nbsp;

Jeffrey Deitch blessed us with not just one but two impressive exhibitions during art week.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On display until the 26th of March, the first one exhibits <a href="https://deitch.com/special-projects/exhibitions/raqib-shaw-tales-from-an-urban-garden">Raqib Shaw&rsquo;s &ldquo;Tales From an Urban Garden&rdquo;</a> in collaboration with White Cube and in partnership with Dries Van Noten, with the fashion house&rsquo;s flagship known as &ldquo;The Little House&rdquo; in West Hollywood serving as the venue.&nbsp; The exhibit features an enchanting series of meticulously detailed, opulent, gold-embossed paintings that transport the viewer into a world inspired by the memory of his mother&rsquo;s garden in Kashmir.&nbsp; Shaw transformed the parking lot next to his South London studio into &ldquo;a world in miniature that could be magnified on canvas&hellip; a perfect theatre setting for my paintings where my life is re-enacted and recorded.&rdquo;&nbsp; Infused within his works are his musical and literary interests, and his deep knowledge of the art of India, England, continental Europe, Persia and Japan.&nbsp;

On the other side of town at his gallery in Hollywood, Jeffrey Deitch presented a group exhibit titled &ldquo;Luncheon on the Grass,&rdquo; inviting 30 of the most acclaimed contemporary painters to create a work in response to &Eacute;douard Manet&rsquo;s 1863 masterpiece of the same title in French, &ldquo;Le D&eacute;jeuner sur l&rsquo;herbe.&rdquo; The collective of individual interpretations of the Manet painting is a truly fascinating experience.&nbsp; Participating artists include: Kehinde Wiley, Paul McCarthy, Sam McKinniss, Nina Chanel Abney, Mickalene Thomas, Tschabalala Self, and Naudline Pierre,&nbsp;among others.

Jerry Gogosian Takes Over Frieze&nbsp; 
(Having Already Succeeded in Taking Over Instagram&#39;s Meme World, It Was Time For The Real World)

Because we cannot get enough of Hilde Lynn Helphenstein a.k.a. internet avatar Jerry Gogosian - one of the art world&rsquo;s most entertaining and insightful personalities - we need to expand beyond her MATCHESFASHION brunch.

Deemed the &ldquo;Art Critic for a New Generation&rdquo; by the Wall Street Journal, Jerry Gogosian was born from Helphenstein&rsquo;s leveraging of social media and memes to fearlessly critique and call out art industry &ldquo;bs&rdquo; in a way that always makes us giggle, partly because of her uncanny with, and partly because she says a lot of things that a lot of people are thinking but do not have the guts to say out loud (so thank you Hilde/Jerry). Her cheeky sense of humor combined with her well-informed insight into the art industry including serious stat-driven reports has captured the attention, eyes and ears of the industry.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On top of MATCHESFASHION including her as part of their agenda, Jerry Gogosian launched her own sculptural work of art at SPRING/BREAK Art Show in Culver City titled &ldquo;Rabbit 01.&rdquo;&nbsp; She held a big after-party at the Studio 54-channeling, disco ball-drenched Sunset nightclub at Ian Schrager&rsquo;s West Hollywood EDITION hotel with a second sculpture titled &ldquo;Rabbit 2&rdquo; as the inanimate guest of honour. &nbsp; Believed to be the very first sculptures ever created by an internet avatar, by bringing her virtual memes to physical life, these art pieces serve as farcical commentary on a combination of several recurring themes in the artmosphere: &quot;the commercialization of art, the male gaze dominating art history,&quot; Gagosian states, &ldquo;and the art market&rsquo;s obsession with money, sex and power.&rdquo;&nbsp; Also integrated are allusions to historical references including Bernini&rsquo;s &ldquo;The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa&rdquo; and contemporary blue chip artists Jeff Koons and Kaws, both of whom are frequently referenced in JG memes. &nbsp; To add a little tongue-in-cheek referencing, Gogosian adorned the faces of her sculptures with a Facebook Oculus headset on &ldquo;Rabbit 01&rdquo; and Google Glasses &ldquo;Rabbit 02,&rdquo; to drive home the shift into the metaverse.&nbsp; &ldquo;The sculptures are memes in and of themselves, playing into the vanity fair of it all.&nbsp; Difficult to look at, yet strikingly beautiful in their glossy Mercedes-Benz lacquered paint, they launched many conversations and are in talks for a museum show,&rdquo; Gagosian&rsquo;s team states.

SPRING/BREAK Art Show

Celebrating its third year, <a href="https://springbreakartfair.com/">SPRING/BREAK Art Show</a>&nbsp;partnered again with Skylight Studios, taking over one of their spaces in Culver City.&nbsp; Unlike other major art fairs that are gallerist- and dealer-driven, Founders Amber Kelly and Andrew Gori created the fair to be artist- and curator-driven. The fair offers up fresh, innovative projects not found elsewhere.&nbsp; This year with the the fair titled &ldquo;HEARSAY:HERESY&rdquo; featured 50 immersive installations took over a 30,000 square foot former factory, delivering another highly memorable, immersive and experimental three days.&nbsp;

The most buzzed about artists and exhibits included legendary artist, photographer and fashion icon Maripol who among other things captured images of Madonna and Jean-Michel Basquiat; artist Ronan Day-Lewis in partnership with Brooklyn-based artist-run space Tomato Mouse showcasing his solo exhibition titled &ldquo;See Through,&rdquo;&nbsp; a solo booth from Alia Shawkat, an artist widely known as the star of Search Party and Arrested Development; and the independent curatorial project HELL/O ARCADIA? ﻿﻿curated by Maria Petrovskaya + Zak Vreeland, featuring Artists Zoe McGuire, Sarah Fuhrman, Emily Oliveira, Haley Hughes, Katrina Jurjans, Luke Silva, and Maria Petrovskaya.

Felix Art Fair

Founders Dean Valentine, Al and Mills Mor&aacute;n installed their third edition of Felix at the iconic Hollywood Roosevelt hotel. &nbsp; We love the format of this fair where, instead of paying a fortune for exhibition booths within a convention space, 60 gallerists and exhibitors pay for hotel rooms across two floors to hold their exhibits, as well as the cabanas surrounding the hotel&rsquo;s pool, which happens to feature a painting by art legend David Hockney.&nbsp;

There is nothing more fitting than to show a film about art in the city that intersects film and art.&nbsp; Hollywood is founded on the &ldquo;art of storytelling.&rdquo; Flipping the idiom around, Charles Derennes and Eduardo de Luze found the City of Angels to be the perfect muse for the &ldquo;storytelling of art&rdquo; - the people, the places, the things that define this city told through the&nbsp; camera lens and the eyes of an entire consortium of art industry personalities.

The filmmakers premiered a private screening of <a href="http://sunset24documentary.com/">Sunset 24</a> for friends, family and associates during Frieze Week along with a Q&amp;A period moderated by Magnus Resch and a cocktail reception sponsored by Ruinart post-screening.

The 90-minute film condenses a 24-hour timeframe in Los Angeles, during which every new scene with new personalities telling new stories represents one hour in the day.&nbsp; Collectively all of the scenes and stories make a 24-hour day.&nbsp; Thoughtfully methodical and formulaic, the viewer starts to notice a rhythm to it as time passes by and the film progresses: the 24 short sequences are each between 3 to 6 minutes in length, they each have a mini 20-second introduction of black and white abstract shots, which gives the audience time to breathe and digest the information, and gives them the context of the location of the next stop in LA.&nbsp;

Shot in super 16mm film with a cinematic ratio of 2:35, the concept takes the viewer through intimate and sometimes seemingly surreal conversations between artists, collectors, art dealers, and other industry personalities revealing unheard stories, techniques, thoughts and summing up the eclectic art scene that makes Los Angeles so special.

The documentary, due to its large representation of artists, collectors, art dealers, gives keys to the audience to insight into the creative process of artists and the art world has a whole. These nuggets of perspective include the expectation of a curator or an art dealer, the fears of young artists, the practices and methods of upcoming artists, the introspective thoughts, opinions and stories of some of the most renowned artists in the world, and the reality of the art world from the heart of artists in one of the most influential city in the world: Los Angeles.

This film truly tells the love story between Los Angeles and its art makers and how that love story makes The City of Angels such a special place.

Arielle Pytka &quot;Archipelago Continuum&quot; Solo Exhibit&nbsp;at Just One Eye

A friend of and previous collaborator with L&rsquo;Officiel, artist <a href="http://ariellepytka.com/">Arielle Pytka</a> held a solo exhibition at Just One Eye luxury concept store in Hollywood.&nbsp; The works are a continuation of a series Pytka debuted in 2019 at Just One Eye, and it is the first exhibition the retailer held in their new art and event space.&nbsp; The presentation featured her &ldquo;Archipelago Continuum&rdquo; series of large-scale paintings which she created during the height of the pandemic when travel was limited.&nbsp;

Fascinated with cartography from her lifelong passion for sailing, Pytka resorted to her mind&rsquo;s eye to map out and explore an imaginary new world.&nbsp; The paintings are &ldquo;Inspired by long periods of time at sea and under the stars, including two transatlantic crossings on vintage sailboats,&rdquo; says Arielle. &ldquo;Some of the paintings are also reminiscent of island chains in South East Asia, where [I] lived part-time for five years.&rdquo; &nbsp; Archipelago Continuum navigates the journey of an adventurer and cartographer through paint and canvas to places unknown-perhaps here on Earth or in another galaxy.&nbsp;

Artsy X The KNOW Contemporary Present &ldquo;BLACK&rdquo;

In partnership with Artsy, Artist and Gallerist Knowledge Bennett of The KNOW Contemporary partnered with author and art historian Charles Moore to present a group exhibit titled &ldquo;BLACK,&rdquo; featuring 10 artists spanning New York to LA, depicting Blackness through various modes of thought, social references and cultural experiences.&nbsp; The presentation examines the multiplicity of ways artists employ its color to convey intriguing visual concepts.

Featured artists showing works in the exhibit held at Bennett&rsquo;s studio-gallery space include Anthony Olubunmi Akinbola, Patrick Alston, Knowledge Bennett, Lindsey Brittain Collins, Ryan Cosbert, Kim Dacres, Muna Malik, Ashante Kindle, Ronnie Robinson, and Paul Anthony Smith.&nbsp; Partnering with Artsy provides an ideal platform to expand the gallery&rsquo;s reach to a global audience.
